Job description

We are looking for a talented data analyst to join us on a short-term project to help us build the first iteration of our forecasting model, to help us better understand available and likely shorter term future demand and supply within our marketplace and allocate resources to ensure a healthy level of balance is maintained.

Good Life Sorted is an award-winning startup working to make the homes of older adults a happier place, by matching them with Helpers to support them with everyday tasks. We’ve been growing steadily under the radar for 5 years, and are now ready to start really accelerating.

We are a hyper-local marketplace that operates across the south of England, matching Helpers with Customers. Helpers tend to operate within a 5 mile radius of where they live, which can make balancing supply and demand across the marketplace tricky. In addition to this, whilst the timeframe from enquiry to customer is about 14 days, the timeframe from starting to find a helper to them becoming active is about 60 days.

We have a range of different data that we use to try and triangulate where we need to invest money to drive either supply or demand sides of the business, but at the minute our approach is rudimentary.

1. Project Scope & Duration

  • Scope: Analyse current and historical data to produce actionable insights on the attributes and features of helpers that drive successful customer engagements. Using the insights from analysis and customer demand data, build a current state of the marketplace model capable of highlighting locations with a surplus in supply or demand.
  • Deliverables:
    • Analysis of current and historic helper data, including helper, visit, availability and matching data.
    • Helper supply model containing a view of the supply of helpers by location
    • Customer demand model containing a view of the demand from customers by location
    • Market Health model containing a view of the locations with surplus supply or demand
    • System for spotting and flagging demand and supply side imbalances for the business to take action on
    • Documentation of analysis and deliverables with framework for ongoing improvements
  • Short-Term Engagement: Depending on project complexity.
  • Deliverables:
    • Prototype model for supply-demand matching
    • Insights on key bottlenecks or imbalances

2. Role and Responsibilities

  • Model Development: Design and build a model to identify supply-demand imbalances within the marketplace.
  • Data Analysis: Collect, clean, and analyze historical marketplace data (e.g., job postings, worker availability, response times, historic demand, marketplace turnover, and helper & customer churn).
  • Predictive Insights: Develop algorithms or statistical techniques to forecast activity and recommend demand and supply-side adjustments.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with key stakeholders to validate assumptions and tweak the model accordingly
  • Visualization & Reporting: Present insights in an accessible way (dashboards, reports, map view) to help the business take action.
  • Implementation Guidance: Provide recommendations on tooling to run and evolve this model.

3. Skills & Experience Needed

  • Data Science & Modelling: Strong experience in building models for marketplace dynamics, demand forecasting, or pricing.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and relevant machine learning libraries.
  • Data Handling: Experience with data engineering, feature selection, and working with large datasets.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of marketplace dynamics and factors influencing supply and demand in gig economy/home services.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business recommendations.
